Acupuncture Regulations

Ontario Regulations

Acupuncture became a regulated profession in Ontario in 2006. The new regulatory body is called the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO). This regulatory body is not yet a fully functioning college (they are not yet accepting members) and a transitional council is working on creating the regulations under which the future college will operate. Therefore, under the law the term "acupuncturist" is now regulated, which means that currently no one is able to use that term. It is important that you keep up to date with the process happening with the CTCMPAO. We also encourage all former students to become involved in the process of the transitional council. Neither this school or any other school in Ontario can guarantee that their program will meet the educational requirements required for membership.

Remember though that the Foundations in Acupuncture program we offer still allows you to practice acupuncture within your current scope of practice and that will not change once the CTCMPAO is up an running. You need only concern yourself with the grandfathering process if you are interested in practicing as an acupuncturist.

Please see below for the current recommendations from the transitional council regarding the grandfathering process.
